Help!

I bought a Formica subsertica colony and it arrived yesterday.

It contained the queen and a worker.

There was no brood.

I've been trying to make them eat, but they wouldn't eat anything I gave them.

The queen seemed pretty disturbed, so I put them away in a cabnit.

What should I do?

Edit: I gave them sugar water for the food.

Many small Formica colonies stop producing brood after spring, so they will not need more protein until next year.

Keep on feeding sugars and the queen and her worker should survive the next couple of months, or you could attempt a brood boost.

Thanks for the advice.

The queen accepted the sugar water, so I guess they can hold out.
