Unfortunately oregon has some of the strictest permit laws in the entire country, and neither of those species are native to your state.

Acquiring permits just isn't worth it. I've dealt with the USDA, and I don't plan on doing it again.

Have you kept any Pogonomyrmex because they are pretty action packed and are another desert species. Specifically Pogonomyrmex occidentalis because they are easy to find for sale in the southern states.
I keep: C. modoc, C. sansabeanus , C. clarithorax, C. maritimus, Formica argentea, M. mexicanus
, Odontomachus brunneus
, Pogonomyrmex californicus, Pogonomyrmex rugosus,

I would 2nd that suggestion ^
I am totally enthralled by my Pogonomyrmex c. colony, and they seem quite easy to care for. Eat seeds and fruit mostly no need to do insects really, though it does seem to promote faster colony growth. bBut they do fine on only seeds and fruit and are not too fussy about light either from my own xp.
