It's probably the same species we all have been suspecting are M. romainei. They fly just before dusk, usually a day or two after it rains.

The species being suspected of M. romainei is not M. romainei based on the description and localities that they are found. Based on the localities I have found them they align near-perfect with the distribution map of M. sp. cf kennedyi-romainei which is an undescribed transition species. Though, people have caught actual M. romainei in California - they were just sold as M. mimicus as per the standard California identification level.

I haven't had the time to try keying them out or even do any research yet.

I never said anything to down play your work, I do know you are a busy person who doesn't have the time to do much research on how much of a mess Endiodioctes is. I was simply stating that they are not what they are suspected of being. I acknowledge that it is a lot of work to just know how daft it is to try to identify Endiodioctes to species without the understanding of how many species complexes there are - M. placodops being three different species, M. mendax being five species, M. melliger being five species, numerous species that key to M. mimicus and M. flaviceps, etc. etc.
