is activated charcoal toxic to ants?

So I wanted to paint my fire brick nest with black grout everywhere except the chambers and I was wondering if I could use activated charcoal as a dye for the grout. is it mold free? If it is I might use black spray paint. is spray paint toxic and mold free

Both of these are most likely toxic, especially the spray paint.

Try using natural oak galls or walnut husks, both of which produce a black dye when boiled in water.

Activated charcoal shouldn't be a problem. It is used for springtail cultures and in vivariums all the time. As for the spray paint, Krylon Fusion paints should be fine. Plasti Dip also works. Just make sure the stuff cures completely and then rinse it off before use.
