Aside from Tarheel ants nests though, as they can get pretty expensive with the larger nests.

Great quality for a good price:
-Foranto
-Aus ants
-Some Etsy nests
-Drew's Dirt Boxes

-I would not recommend Ant Shack, or any other 3-d printed formicarium sellers. These nests are often overpriced, and ants usually prefer more natural materials anyways.

Don't forget Underground Citi.

I use their nests for 4 of my 6 colonies and they are amazing. In particular this is an excellent founding formicarium for larger species.
You can really see the ants clearly and it's great for taking photos and observations.

I also second foranto for wood loving camponotus species. Though it can be hard to get ahold of their nests.

If you live in Germany or have money to burn on shipping ANTCUBE is also excellent. I really like their glass outworlds and have enjoyed simply setting a wooden nest in the glass cube and watching natural ant behaviour.

I have also tried their "traditional" "ant farms" you know... two panes of glass with sand between. My Pogonomyrmex seem to enjoy their dirt nest, but my lasius ants just made a mess of theirs. So... mixed results on those.

Also for some reason I can't get my Camponotus to move into their corks nest.

But I still love the clean style nice enough for an adult living room so when we have people over I can show them the ants!
