Its an x2 clone i think. My dad designs and sells second story extensions in sydney. His company paid a massive amount of money to get prints of the house with the new floor for the customer to see.


Once i get it sorted and working ill be printing my dad's designs at first then possibly his colleague's.

Be sure to post pictures! Mind sharing the brand/source? I'm glad you didn't get a Makergear X2, I don't agree with how they took the company. But that's just my opinion...

Haha that's the 3D printer Bigb just got, and that I am thinking of getting. Terry thinks it's crap, but I would have to disagree. Bigb has printed all sorts of stuff so far without a problem.

I think you're confusing my telling you that you weren't going to have time to put it to any practical use, with the machine being the problem.

Whenever one buys these clone machines from overseas vendors, he or she does run the risk of receiving a lemon, or not being able to service the machine later on, should a custom component need replacing. For instance, I just had to replace a custom injection molded part with brass fittings embedded in the part. I can't imagine dealing with a company based outside the U.S., should that part need to be replaced.

Machines like this take a ton of skill to be able to adequately use and maintain. Those are the general areas of concern I would express to any would-be buyer.

From what Bigb told me, all the parts are the same as the machine that was cloned, so if you can get them for the genuine one, you can get them for the clone.

Yes, there are mechanically inclined people and there are people who are not. Most people are not, but if you think Bigb or I aren't mechanically inclined enough to deal with a machine like this, you clearly don't know us at all.

MakerBot will not sell you a gantry bracket for any amount of money, because it is not a sellable SKU, nor can you find one elsewhere.  They only ship free replacements to genuine bots.  The bill of materials for these bots is a mile long.

 

I don't care how mechanically inclined you are, you simply will not have the tooling to faithfully duplicate some high precision parts, and some replacement compatible parts can be difficult or impossible to find for sale at any price.

 

If you don't believe you will have more problems dealing with a no-name foreign company when it comes to service and maintenance, then you are clearly delusional, and can not be helped.

I didn't say I was mechanically inclined enough to make my own parts. You said "Machines like this take a ton of skill to be able to adequately use and maintain". That has nothing to do with MakerBot selling parts. What special skills do you have that Bigb or I are lacking.

With the inspiration from this thread, I finally took my old Reprap out of the closet again this weekend. There's some fine calibration that can be performed but it's actually good to go, it was my bed surface that was screwing prints up.

 

Other than thingiverse, any other good repositories or sources for cool things to print?
