Today while anting i found and captured a sanguinea group (raptiformica) formica colony with 7 queens. This is not the first time it has happened either, though I’ve usually brushed it off as just infertile alate workers, as there was often a crazy amount of queens (like 10+), eggs being laid that seem slightly scattered and that polygyny is not known in the sanguinea group. This begs the question, has anyone ever seen something like this before in slave making formica? Are these guys actually polygynous or is this all just one big coincidence that so many colonies have “alate workers?”
