Hey all! This is a journal I have decided to start because I realized there are little to no journals on this ant species. Here are some pics of my queen. She has pupae already!3526f9c671a444089c69bcfbe43b2f94.jpgfec6aa43b97babbc361da7bc86aa593d.jpg

Young ant keeper with a decent amount of knowledge on local ant species.

YouTube: https://m.youtube.co...uKsahGliSH7EqOQ (It's pretty dead. Might upload again soon, don't expect my voice to sound the same though.)

Currently kept ant species, favorites have a star in front of their names (NOT in alphabetical order, also may be outdated sometimes): Camponotus irritans inferior, Ooceraea biroi, Pheidole parva, Nylanderia sp., Paraparatrechina tapinomoides, Platythyrea sp., Anochetus sp., Colobopsis sp. (cylindrica group), Crematogaster ferrarii, Polyrhachis (Myrma) cf. pruinosa, Polyrhachis (Cyrtomyrma) laevissima, Tapinoma sp. (formerly Zatapinoma)

Death count: Probably over a hundred individual queens and colonies by now. I cannot recall whatsoever.

I would say 1.5-1.7 cm! And I agree. She's bigger than my trap jaw
queen!

And being situated in Malaysia, she's definitely not the biggest. In malaysia, weavers are only counted as medium!

I noticed a couple pupae's legs have started to darken. Workers soon! A note that I forgot to make when I started this. For all you newbies in southeast Asia, these ants are not for beginners and only a pro or someone with experience on this ant species (like me) should keep this. I am only 12 but have kept ants for 2+ years and have learnt a lot since I started. (Edit: I forgot I was 12 lol )328aa4f0fd1538d4059788e8d67372a6.jpga8cada955d3e74f5de3d7a7ffdc2df44.jpg

Nice update! Also, I heard that weaver ant colonies grow very fast (egg to worker takes slightly under a month). I've always wanted to keep this species (funny thing is that I have been ant keeping for nearly 3 years now and I still don't know much about their care)

Yes they do grow fast! A colony can reach 1000+ workers in 8 months! And that last part makes sense. 3 years of reasearch is way too little time. I have been doing reasearch on weaver ants at the age of 7 and I still am improvising setups. And I'm 12 so that was 5 years of unsuccessful reasearch

It's works like this, the container the ants are in is set upon a water reservoir. The water from below slowly evaporates and humidifies the ant nest. Simple, but efficient!

Had to move em to a test tube setup. Long story short, the container flooded. I guess it's back to the drawing board for me! The ants are fine thank goodness. The brood is safe and secure.
