Journal start 7/21/2021

I caught two queens on Sunday, 7/18/2021 . I am not sure what the exact species is yet, but I hope I can figure that out soon. 

 

I have labeled the queens queen 1 and queen 2. 

Both queens have eggs, but queen 1 has clumped them up together while queen 2 has scattered them a bit. 

 

I hope I can get at least one colony out of these two, and my hopes are high. I will try to update once they get larvae(if they do get larvae.) wish me luck!

The queens don't seem to have spines so, they are most likely P. californicus. Good luck with them!

I do see a few similarities, but they are most likely pogonomyrmex. my pictures are oviously not the best for id's.

They look almost identical to my pogonomyrmex occidentalis colony. It could be some other species, though. But the color, body texture, head and jaw shape, gaster shape, size are all the same. 

 

Looking forward to seeing more of this colony.

both queens died, I suspect that they were infertile because they got eggs but never larvae.
