I have a lot of nesting ant hills on my five acres...it just dawned on me that it would be way cool to transfer the hills into a giant "ant farm" made of big glass panels (like sliding glass doors) Thoughts?

Do you intend to box off a square acre with glass?

It would be cool to create a large nest like that for a really large species, but you'd need a large aquarium or large custom built outworld to make it work.   You probably won't be able to get wild ants to nest inside your nest, and you probably won't be able to dig up an established colony and transfer them to your nest.

but if it were me, I'd keep the doors and work on designing a huge ant nest with huge outworld so that when I have a colony large enough to use it, it would be really cool.  You can probably set it up at a local school or museum and collect a small fee to lease it and maintain it while educating people about ants.

Sounds interesting, are you thinking of something like this?
