Yeah, I've been at 4 stars for a while. I don't care too much, and I think I know who gave less, but it still would be nice to get 5 stars. Lol. I'll rate you 5 stars Kael, you've helped me a lot when I was a beginner.

There are only two issues I really see with rating system in place, the former being that it only gives a generalisation of an individual without elaborating on the reasoning behind it. Therefore members or the account holder who may view a low rating and make the generalized assumption that 'this individual is bad' without having understanding for the reason(s) as to why that is. This is not so much of an issue for older accounts with a higher number of ratings but could certainly hurt newer or more impressionable members of the forum, who usually will take others' opinions to heart and may lead to a 'pygmalion effect' of sorts.

The latter issue being that a rating on a members account, once made, is unable to be changed by the user once clicking, and will remain a permanent statistic representative of the users beliefs, regardless of whether the users opinions of the member may change over time. Though this may not effect newer members much so, though it feels as though it may give an inaccurate representation of older members opinions of an individual.

both these issues are applicable to topic rating also, namely journals or long standing topics of interest.

I'm going to say this feeling of being down from an online rating has it's roots in the modern concept of idolism. So many people look up to youtubers, actors, and other important figures as people who's footsteps deserve being followed it. If you follow in someone's footsteps, you will never reach something better. You will forever compare yourself with someone you are not, and so when these people have "5 stars" and you, on an ant forum, have "4 stars" you see yourself as lesser. This is complete and utter nonsense, and something that I truly detest about society. How will innovation occur if we idolize the people "above" us to a degree that we only want to do what they do? How is that accomplishing anything? Change for the sake of change is not good, but neither is simply attempting to walk on someone's coattails for a lifetime. Life is more than just those who have figured out a way to be successful. We can look up to them, but instead think about what they did to be successful(something new) and look up to this idea of improvement, not some random person who sees themself as a superior being.

Hi there! I went on a 6 month or so hiatus, in part due, and in part cause of the death of my colonies.

However, I went back to the Sierras, and restarted my collection, which is now as follows:

Aphaenogaster uinta, Camponotus vicinus, Camponotus modoc, Formica cf. aserva, Formica cf. micropthalma, Formica cf. manni, Formica subpolita, Formica cf. subaenescens, Lasius americanus, Manica invidia, Pogonomyrmex salinus, Pogonomyrmex sp. 1, Solenopsis validiuscula, & Solenopsis sp. 3 (new Sierra variant).

Insert crying meme and clapping meme. I do get what you are saying I I think people should not pay attention to these ratings and base it off reviews of their products and I think this is a great opportunity to say that instead of leaving a star rating we should post a response to a shop or tell others about the care you were given while buying or selling. I honestly didn’t notice my star rating till when this post was put up so idk.

If people rate you low they’re probably jealous of your swag.

Also everyone has cool opinions and stuff about this topic which is cool to see.

yes. you should be able to leave a note proving your rating, so people can't just rate 1 star for no reason.

Go to the ant, you sluggard; consider its ways and be wise! It has no commander, no overseer or ruler, yet it stores its provisions in summer and gathers its food at harvest. -Proverbs 6: 6-8
