Hello. I was planning to make wood formicariums, but they are way too much work to carve. I'm thinking of making a mini-hearth style formicarium with grout. Would a sponge fit onto the side of the nest (Watered with a blunt tip syringe) work for hydration?

I know, but the steel mesh is costing 20+ dollars on ebay (including shipping) for a pretty small piece

Would a sponge work though?

"knockoff tha stuff."  Oh that made me laugh.  Very true though...  If you are making them for yourself, a sponge would probably work, but I definitely recommend a water tower.  I don't know if you'd be able to sell them if they just had a sponge.  Who knows though, I know I personally prefer the water towers but maybe that's only me.  Lol

Find a cheap reusable coffee filter and cut the mesh out of that.

I bought some 100 micron stainless mesh not to long ago from eBay for 8 dollars for the exact same purpose. About 12 inches by 30 inches.

Oh, really? Do you know any good place to get small enough Petri dishes? I can only find 90mm-100mm diameter ones. The smallest I found is 70mm.

I use cosmetic containers, meant for samples for like lotion or something. You can get like 120 at a time, use the 5 gram one, not the 3 gram

Those have the spiral thing on them at the top, meant for the lid to screw on there right? Won't that look a little strange?
