What in the world is a "preno" ?

Hobbyist shorthand for the genus prenolepis, almost always referring to imparis.

Like how some people refer to Argentine Ants as Argies and Camponotus as Camponotus and Tetramorium as Tetras anD Pogonomyrmex as Pogonomyrmex and Honey Pot Ants as Pots

you can literally not type the word p-o-g-o-s without it auto correcting to Pogonomyrmex

It was really interesting with the Prenos vs. Tetramorium compared to Camponotus vs. Tetramorium. In both cases, there were delayed deaths on the non-Tetra side, as if Tetras have some kind of long-acting, late-effect venom. BUT with the Prenos, I found Tetramorium twitching and dying in the outworld pretty soon afterward. CLEALY they had been hit by the Preno toxin. Lost my Preno workers sadly, too. The toxic effects of Preno venom were very marked, though.

these guys are back again on my deskk.  I got  better pics so we can identify them more conclusively.  They are approximatley 1.6mm long and they seem to be going after protein on my desk.   I have to figure out how to kill these guys again.  They are going after a cricket leg that I left on my desk.

"How to Train Your Ants" lol

I didn't know Preno's were good at fighting.  I though they were good at...  uh...  getting fat?

Anyways, get microscope pics, that's what I'm trying with some Formica I found.  I you still go to school see if any science teachers there are willing to let you use them.  USB-Microscopes are also good since you can just plug em' in to your computer.

AC vibes ngl.  Also, do you know where they're coming from?  That might give you an idea on where to look to find the colony,

critter between The Ant glass

While we are at it, these little guys/gals are living with my ants in the formicarium.  Seems like the ants don't mind them too much, they are also living between the glass and the formicarium.
Question is why don't the ants eat them?
2. What are these little critters.

Yea I'm not to happy with these ants might have to give them something to take back to their colony.

Also are these ants considered invasive or pests?   They seem awfully aggressive looking for food.  They are living on my back patio, I have argentines that are living in the front patio.   From what I understand is these Monomoriums can't compete with Argentine ants.

Monomorium are native. Those white dots look like grain mites.

I only see a book louse there. No grain mites from what I can tell. Booklice are completely harmless, and probably beneficial.

In answer to your other question, Monomorium ergatogyna(any Monomorium in CA really) is a native species. They are considered a pest because they will commonly enter houses in search of food. Much better than argentines though in my opinion, they really seem to give native fauna a break by offering some real competition to argentines.

Hi there! I went on a 6 month or so hiatus, in part due, and in part cause of the death of my colonies.

However, I went back to the Sierras, and restarted my collection, which is now as follows:

Aphaenogaster uinta, Camponotus vicinus, Camponotus modoc, Formica cf. aserva, Formica cf. micropthalma, Formica cf. manni, Formica subpolita, Formica cf. subaenescens, Lasius americanus, Manica invidia, Pogonomyrmex salinus, Pogonomyrmex sp. 1, Solenopsis validiuscula, & Solenopsis sp. 3 (new Sierra variant).
