Just as title says I was wondering because these are such cool ants but wouldn’t stuff like tarheelant nests be devoured?
We don’t talk about that

Depends on the species. Most of them wouldn't be able to chew out. The more popular ones like diversa certainly will.

For real? Even type III?

C. diversa are supposedly able to chew through concrete, although I believe THA Type III is harder than concrete. I know people who have kept diversa in THA Type III with no issues. However, I'm curious about why you're asking about a mini hearth specifically. Diversa would fill a mini hearth in like, half an hour. Those things grow like crazy.

Ponerinecat pretty much summed it up. Many species won't be able to (like C. longiiC. atoma and friends).
