Large Camponotus species and Myrmecia are sworn enemies of each other around here

Looks like there was a big Camponotus nigriceps raid on my local and friendly to me Myrmecia nigrocinta nest!
And the Camponotus lost out by the looks of things. Lots of dead major bodies and one beheaded head.

Surprised the bodies are still around as these big majors, 15-16mm, make a decent feed 1f642.png

sounds like tetramorium battles around here. there are dead bodies everywhere.

Go to the ant, you sluggard; consider its ways and be wise! It has no commander, no overseer or ruler, yet it stores its provisions in summer and gathers its food at harvest. -Proverbs 6: 6-8

I think those camponotus need to back off before they basically trigger the Myrmecia colony to attack them.

it might be a little harder, though, because they will be facing all of the majors and super majors, if there are any.

Its the pavement ant colony in my yard all over again.. Well what we all learn from this is that it ends badly for both. The pavement ant colony in my backyard literally wiped itself out with wars and now i have only one pavement ant colony hiding away near the lawn mower. Hey at least they died and i have about 10 more species of ants in my backyard.

you are lucky. i am going to destroy all pavement ant colonies in my yard next year. they are killing all of the native ants, especially the lasius.

Black crazy ants in Virginia? Unless you mean like Nylanderia which are also called crazy ants.

Absolutely gutted.... the C.nigriceps raiders came back for seconds and this time they won!
Every couple of days I would walk past this M.nigrocincta nest and say hi, and let them walk on my hands.... ahh no more :*(

vids
https://www.instagra.../p/CGZloUaAy1W/

The nigriceps have over taken the nest, and only a few crushed nigrocincta bodies around the place. Legs still twitching on some so the raid was recent.

I played that game. Wish it was more realistic, but that's probably as close as we will ever get.

the graphics are super realistic, but you are right, the game play is not correct. but it is the best they could do. they do a lot of research on their ants and insects i can tell, using the scientific names.
