My Camponotus queen has had cocoons for a long time. She hasn't opened any of them. Should I try to open them myself? More larvae have spun cocoons but the older ones never become nanitics.

1 Formica fusca group- 0 workers
1 Tetramorium immigrans colony-20 workers
1 Dorymyrmex insanus- 1 queen, used to have workers
1 large P. occidentalis colony- around 50 workers, plenty of brood

Yes, they are darker than that before they hatch.

18 days is pretty short for Camponotus pupae. Generally the pupal stage will take as long as the previous two stages combined. I'm sure your queen will eclose those pupae when they are ready.
