I thought I had two of these, but I since noticed that the first one that has now died, had darker orange areas on its thorax and gaster. At first I thought they were both Myrmecocystus mexicanus, but now I'm not sure. Does anybody know if this is M. mexicanus, or M. testaceus?

Nice.  I didn't realize that Myrmecocystus mexicanus could get that yellow.

That genus doesn't occur in my location.
