Hey everyone, this is my first post on this forum. I’ve been doing a lot of research and finally feel ready to start some colonies from new queens. I have about 5 different species, many of which I have been able to identify, except for these two caught on the same evening. I have a tough time differentiating tapinoma sessile from Pheidole megacephala, especially since they had their nuptial flights the same evening on 7/16. Both these queens are very small size, hard to estimate a measurement in the test tubes. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Both are Pheidole. And they look pretty big for Pheidole, nice!

Just outside in my yard, mixture of dirt/gravel and also on the driveway. There were hundreds of them. Nests were small hills scattered throughout the yard for both species.

Both queens are pheidole of some kind. Tapinoma sessile have no petiole nodes and a smaller head.

Perfect thank you! Definitely the species I wanted because of the large heads of the majors.

Either you have tiny tubes or those Pheidole are gigantic.
