Hello Ladies and Gents,

My name is John, and I am brand new to the site.  I always wanted to raise an ant colony,  but because of the interstate restrictions, didn't really know how to go about it.  Now, the GAN project has given me a renewed hope.

About myself, I've been living in LA for about 10 years, but I  was raised in Modesto, CA. I'm a USAF veteran;  I love the outdoors;  I love fireworks.  And I love ranching;  I hope to buy one in Escondido or Fallbrook in the not too distant future.

I hope to make a few new friends here and to further my interests in ant farms and myrmecology.

Thanks a lot,

John

Welcome from San Jose.  I'm also a USAF vet.

You're in luck, there are alot of ant hobbyists in southern california that would love to take you anting and teach you all about ants.  They are a great group of guys.

Enjoy!  It's so much fun!!

Welcome!  :D

GAN is a great way to start in this hobby.

Looking forward to seeing the colony that you get.

Ant forum lingo at its finest.  :D

AntsCanada.com has a program called GAN.  It allows people to sell their extra queens within a small radius.  Keeping species from being moved out of their native range (or past state borders) but still allows a novice to get an entire colony from the beginning.

Thanks Crystals.

That's very similar to my ants. Except my Messor from south spain all of my colonies come from a radius below 50km from my home now. Ok, some of them are bavarian, the rest is autrian.
