ID Confirmiation Indianapolis Indiana Mid-May 2019

Best Answer Aaron567 , June 15 2019 - 9:31 AM

Her long antennae lean me towards Nylanderia.

Also if you look at her petiole, Nylanderia will have a visible petiole that sticks up like in most Formicine ants. Tapinoma sessile's petiole does not point upwards and is just hidden underneath their gaster.

Unfortunately, I don't remember a precise time for this flight, since it's about a month since. I'm thinking she's either Tapinoma sessile or some Nylanderia species.

Anyways here's the necessary "parts" of this ID request:

Found ~4 p.m. on a humid day in the mid 70's in downtown Indianapolis

Found in the middle of May

Found on concrete  next to parking lot in urban neighborhood

4mm length

Solid black

She's only one petiole; Definitely either formicine or dolichiderine.

(Sorry for photo quality; this is the best I could get)

These photos are definitely not high enough quality for a species ID. I just want the genus, if possible.

Nevermind. :)
