I checked on my Tetramorium Immigran queen today and she has laid so many eggs. It is insane how many she has laid. Her pile of eggs and larvae are bigger than her and she doesn't even have a single worker yet. Will she be able to be able to provide enough protein to all the eggs and larvae before her first workers hatch or should I give her a fruit fly? She is fertile and fully claustral. The egg pile is the biggest I have ever seen from a founding queen and I really don't know if she will be able to feed them all.

  • TennesseeAnts and enflamingo like this
Lasius Neoniger (Around 23ish workers)

Tetramorium Immigran (8 Workers)

Myrmica Queen (Not 100% on species)

Sounds like tetramorium lmao. Tetramorium always does this. But with my queens they all ate about 1/4. A lot of queens lay eggs for protein and then eat them. It’s like a recycle sorta thing.

But wouldn't it be more beneficial to just keep the protein since laying the eggs and eating them has to result in some loss of nutrients. Also I shouldn't worry about her not being able to feed all her brood is what your saying? Once her first workers arrive in a week or so everything should be all good and I will update then. Thank's for this reassurance!

Tetramoriums are such hardy ants and very prolific. I wouldn’t worry at all about this.
