Its 91F right now and it rained yesterday and I would go out but I ran out of test tubes. Awsome timing, anything else I could use?

What should I seal it with?

 

btw, I caught a Camponotus queen today that landed on my bike handle while I was riding. I almost flung myself off the seat because i pressed the brakes so hard. I think its Camponotus pennsylvanicus, I suck at ID I don't trust myself, Ill be putting up pictures at some point.

You could seal the ends with silicone or rubber plugs if you have them. Another thing you could use are the big bubble wand containers. I think clear glass beer bottles could work, too. You’d never run out of water in that case.
Also this: ask your science teacher if you can borrow some.

There is mold in one of my Prenolepis imparis test tubes. It's on the side of the glass, it looks like those furry molds. Idk how to explain it. I''ll try to put up pics soon. What should I do? They have eggs and a larvae, its a 4 queen colony

I was going to order even more test tubes but then mistyped "16x150mm test tube" as "15x150mm test tube". I scrolled down a bit and saw a pack of 30 15x150mm test tubes for only about a dollar more than the normal ten 16x150 test tubes I buy. Would 15x150mm test tubes also work?

Is there a such thing as "too" hot for going anting?


I think some species prefer different temperatures, like I know the Brachymyrmex in my area fly at 85, but I think over 100 is too hot, but I may be wrong(Has it ever gotten that hot in NJ?)

Well the highest so far is about 95F. I was thinking queens might get fried in the heat (especially the queens I have in test tubes.)

Took me 45 minutes to accidentally fry ants in a test tube, in a car, in 90 degree weather. RIP those trachymyrmex workers.

Are they in direct sunlight for that long?

Not If they are in a box, it should take longer they are in a garage or in a shed, you are fine.

I havnt used the zoomed heating cable I bought yet. I read the safety instructions and it said to only use the heating cable on glass terrariums. I have started to use plastic test tubes and the plastic tubs as outworlds so would the heating cable melt the plastic? How hot does the heating cable get?
