Hi everybody,

I am 17 years old boy and I'm French (I live in Paris). I started keeping ants about 2 years old after reading the trilogy of the ants from Bernard Werber (I really recommend this book for those who haven't read it yet !). After I received  a Lasius emarginatus colony from my brother but it did not survive for long (It only lasted 6 monts... :P). Then the summer that followed, I found several species and the next year I found new species again. Now I have in my possession :
6 Lasius niger colonies (2 years old)
4 Lasius emarginatus colonies (2 years old)
2 Lasius flavus colonies (6 months old)
1 Lasius umbratus  colony (6 months old)
1 Lasius fuliginosus colony (6 months old)
2 MEssor barbarus colonies (2 years old)
2 Camponotus cruentatus colonies (3 months old)
2 greek Camponotus colonies (6 months old)
1 Formica pratensis colony (6 months old)
1 Aphaenogaster subterannea colony (6 months old)
5 Tetramorium sp colonies (2 years old)
2 Myrmica sp colonies  (6 months old)
1 Pheidole pallidula colony (2 years old)

I found all these species all by myself wink.png. I really like parasitic ants (Formica pratensis+Lasius fuliginosus+Lasius umbratus).

I'd like to share my french experience in ants with you, learn more about english and american ants and... improve my english ! grin.png

Sorry for the mistakes...

and thanks for reading me !

Enjoy

Welcome (Bienvenu), Nexus.

I am American, but wanted to tell you that the only time I've ever seen Lasius emarginatus was during a visit to a suburb of Paris. A beautiful ant. I wish there were more pictures of it on the internet.

dspdrew : Thanks ! Yeah and it's beggining to be a bit repetitive feeding all my ants, changing the tubes.etc.. I think I m going to give some Lasius and Tetramorium to members because I have too much of them. Or release them in the nature...

JAmes C. Trager : Thank you ! Yeah it's true that the Lasius emarginatus are really beautiful. here are some nice pictures of them if you want : http://www.myrmecofo...ne_3_18089.jpeg,

Miles : Thanks ! I think I'll soon start a diary ;).

Jonathan21700 : I found it on the island of Syros in august. I think it is a Camponotus ionius but it could aalso be a Camponotus atheiops.

antmaniac : Yes indeed, I 'm starting to be overcame...

Gaige Daughtrey : They are so cool ! :) Do you have some ?
