It's that time of year where things start cooling off in Colorado, and it's getting almost chilly for my ants (at night).  It's too soon for their hibernation (I plan to keep mine active until October).  I've been brainstorming how to keep my ants warm, and I didn't want to use reptile heating pads because they seem way too hot.  However, I just discovered "seedling heat mats" and those sound perfect.

An example is this guy: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00P7U259C

They gently warm stuff, like potted plant roots.  Has anyone used these for ants?  I bought one today and when it arrives, I'll report back on what I learn.  Cheers!

Heating pads work fine. Just unplug them for a little while once they become too hot.

Heat cables are not too warm at least a 15w 3 m long ones, just 6-7 degrees above ambient.

So a 20 degree C room gets to 27 at most when it's on all the time. And only where the cable touches.

I place mine in the middle of the test tube.

The pads made for hermit crabs should be pretty mild
