First off, thanks to dspdrew for inviting me and informing me about this forum!

what's up guys my name is CJ and I'm from Honolulu, HI. I've been fascinated with ants since I was a kid, but never really got into ant keeping until 2009. I took a break from ant keeping in 2012, but now I'm back baby!!!

BTW my current colonies are Pheidole megacephala and Solenopsis geminata. Yes they are invasive ants, but Hawaii has no native ants, so that sucks for me ): I also have a Camponotus variegatus queen, but she hasn't laid any eggs yet.

Did Hawaii have any native ants before the invasives came? Or was it completely devoid of ants before all the invasive species?

Hawaii has no native social insects, but we do have native solitary insects. Like solitary bees and wasps. All the social insects including ants, termites, etc. all were introduced to the islands. Of course that we know of though, there could be a native Hawaiian ant species waiting to be discovered. Who knows!
