1. Location (on a map) of collection: Morristown, TN
2. Date of collection: 06/01/2018
3. Habitat of collection: Gas Station
4. Length (from head to gaster): APPROXIMATELY 6-8 mm
5. Color, hue, pattern and texture: Red with black on part of gaster
6. Distinguishing characteristics: Smaller than a tetramorium Queen, yet has similar shape and appears to have two petiole nodes (the nodes connecting gaster and thorax, correct?)
7. Distinguishing behavior: Active, slow moving
8. Nest description: Test tube setup
9. Nuptial flight time and date: 11:00 P.M. July 1st, 2018







Sorry for the bad picture quality. She’s so small and my camera wouldn’t focus due to lighting.

If it were me I would chill her long enough to take her out of the tube and get better photos. Having said that, may be Solenopsis.

Well no need for chilling her—she died last night while I was asleep.

However, I got some slightly improved pictures to see if it would help in identification. I also remeasured her and she is 7.25 mm long.

The head and gaster gives it away. The head and thorax of ants in the Pheidole genera are noticeably wider than the ones of Solenopsis.


Just a little boy that likes ants. I try my best to be mature and competent.

I was wanting an ant of the Pheidole genera. That’s a huge bummer. May go out looking today to try and find more.
