I will be purchasing a wine cooler this year because I will have more than just few colonies and my beer fridge needs to be stocked with actual beers, not ants.

Wine cooler is basically a fridge but with a glass window which makes it very easy to keep eyes on colonies in hibernation. Wine coolers often have a digital temperature reader as well.

This is one I am looking at.

140 CAD @ Futureshop.

A wine cooler might also be ideal for keeping P. Imparis as well since they prefer cooler temp.

Any suggestions on a wine cooler?

It's nice to see someone else in this hobby who is willing and able to spend some money to do things the nice way. :) I often thought one of these would be nice for this purpose.

I use a wine cooler to hibernate my colonies.  Mine is much larger, since I have quite a few colonies, and some of which will get quite large in time.

My room normally sits at 18C, so I wouldn't need to worry about P. imparis when they are active (if I had them).

If this is to keep the colony cool when the room is warmer, then I think it will work.  Just look at the details to ensure it can hit all of the needed temperatures, and look at how much power it uses.  Some coolers are energy efficient and use little electricity, others are power hogs.

Yes, I don't doubt most all of us would be "willing". It's the "able" part that seems to stop most, which is why I included it.
