1. Location (on a map) of collection: Ottawa, Ontario, Canada
2. Date of collection: May 10th, 2018
3. Habitat of collection: Under a rotting log in a dryish rocky forest.
4. Length (from head to gaster): 8-9mm (can't find my ruler but she is roughly the same size as my other L. umbratus).
5. Color, hue, pattern and texture: Dark Shiny gaster and light orange body
6. Distinguishing characteristics: Looks very similar to the L. speculiventris posted in this thread by Batspiderfish.
7. Distinguishing behavior: Does not like light
8. Nest description: Rotting log

9. Nuptial flight time and date: N/A

 

I have looked through loads of pictures and L. speculiventris seems to be the best fit. Antmaps does not list them as native to Ontario but does to Quebec (which I live right beside).

We would have to check how shiny the gaster hair is.

Her gaster is quite shiny.

 

(gave her some L. flavus brood and workers, they are getting along fine)

I know that this is supposed to be a hyper parasite of L. minutus but L. flavus seems to be widely accepted by parasites, I've yet to have any failures at getting the workers to accept the queen and vice versa. Now whether these queens lay or not is a different story that I'll have to find out.
