I've now got an Aphaenogaster colony, and from what I've read it appears that they like apples. But I've heard some people say that they don't trust fruit, saying that they have had ants die before from eating store bought fruit. What do I do? Do you guys feed your ants fruit? How should I prepare it?

Thanks

I just slice up fruit and place it in the outworld. I've never had a problem with it before.

I’m just starting my first colony, so I’m NOT speaking from any experience here, but as I understand it you simply need to was the fruit throughly before you cut it up.

I would recommend never feeding any pet a food that you aren’t comfortable with.

Ok thanks to both of you. I'm happy to hear that it's safe. I've never fed any of my ants fruit before so I can't wait to see how they like it.

The reason people are cautious to use fruit is because of the pesticide on them. Either wash the fruit very throughly or get pesticide free fruit and you should be fine.

Wash, peel, and use organic fruit. Haven't had a single bad apple this way :).
