Sorry to go so far off topic here, but what is with the test tube? Why would anyone set one up with so little water?

His other two test tubes are also dry, yet the ants still store their brood in them

He has since moved the ants into a natural outworld setup

Current ant colonies -
1) Opisthopsis Rufithorax (strobe ant), Melophorus sp2. black and orange, Pheidole species, Pheidole antipodum

Could be the early stages of a Carebarra affinis - black queen, red workers and majors.
The colony above is only 1 year old, and the queen did not produce any eggs until a few months after capture

I still can't believe how HUGE the majors are compared to the minors!!

They combine the mass brood and growth of smaller ants, while also having larger ones

this guy has had is diversa colony for a while, still doing great in a gypsum nest. Watch the majors get recruited towards the middle when a roach gets dropped in at 2:22

1) For transport. Bigger water tank = higher risk of flooding.

2) The tube is old and he actually made it properly. If done right the cotton will be sucked back into the tube while the water evaporates. Worked well with my Lasius niger tube (cotton has moved back all the way to the end, there is no air or water left), didn't work so well with my Camponotus (probably due to the larger tube diameter the cotton barrier collapsed when the water was very low so the tube flooded and they had to move).

We should respect all forms of consciousness. The body is just a vessel, a mere hull.
