Hi,

We recently moved into a new house and I was installing a ring door bell. When I removed the old house doorbell a bunch of ant came crawling out of the electrical wire hole. I then set a few terra bait traps and there have been hundred of ants that seem to be crawling out of the outside and inside front door trim, near the floor.
Can someone please identify these ants? I’m hoping they’re not carpenter

I can't get the link, but if it's not under high magnification then it will be hard to tell the exact genus

That's Crematogaster for sure

I would say either C. Cerasi or C. Lineolata (I think that's how it's spelled)

Can't imagine those being a problem at all.

You don’t believe they will be an issue to get rid of? My concern was the large amount of ants which have seemed to nest in my door frame.

They won’t do any harm. They are simply nesting in cracks and crevices that already existed before they moved in. They won’t do any damage to your house, as they won’t expand their nest, and will probably move out when/if the colony gets too large.

Yeah, dang man. Don’t kill Crematogaster. I bet you could get them to move if you disturb the nest enough.

Crematogaster are considered pestiforous. I've never understood that one personally. The only time I've ever had them enter my house is after a big rainstorm. I fed them then.

 

 

As for real "pest ants," I have a wild Tapinoma sessile worker crawling up my arm as I'm typing this....

Yeah, even I kill Tapinoma in my house. I've had a few Crematogaster come inside, but very few. It was actually Terro ant bait that attracted them in.

Crematogaster is one of the best genuses

They can be quite pestiferous, and if your house is new enough with any type of foam insulation in the walls they will most definitely chew and dig in it leaving you piles of insulation dust on the floors. In addition they will do some chewing in wood but not commonly.  Easiest way to get rid of them is with bait.
