So I'm planning on moving my T. immigrans colony into a homemade formicarium when they come out of hibernation. The only problem is the outworld. The tube that goes into the outworld is inevitably going to be a bit above the ground, and since Tetramorium aren't good climbers, this is a problem. I need some kind of substrate or lining that can reach the tubing. Sand won't work, since Tetramorium are small, they'll have trouble climbing the small mounds of sand that form, and if a hydration tube has a leak, they'll nest in the sand. Grout and plaster will mold once the ants establish a garbage pile. Any other suggestions?
