Hello all,

My THIRD Anting & Myrmecology quiz is finally available for you all to take! I think this one should be a tad bit easier, but that's also what I thought for the previous two...

All I ask is that you use your Formiculture.com username, and at least try not to Google answers. There's no one there to stop you so you'd just be cheating yourself. ;)

Good Luck!

Click Here to see how much you really know about ANTS!

The links to the previous two quizzes are in my signature, feel free to take those as well!

Best!

Void

The spelling errors might confuse. I got # 11 wrong becuase of the false spelling of Novomessor cockerelli. Also, it's Myrmicinae, not Myrmecinae.

From what I have seen, only the species Myrmica rubra have been called European Fire ants, not the entire genus. Common names are vague and unofficial but it wouldn't make sense for all the species that are not present in Europe. I have never another Myrmica species with that common name.

Doing away with the whole Pinkomyrmex thing would also lessen the confusion for people that don't understand.

Just my thoughts. But otherwise, I liked the difficulty to this one.

In response to your concerns:

1. I'm dyslexic, give me a break. You also misspelled 'because' while trying to correct my spelling! :P

2. Didn't know that! 'European Fire Ant' was supposed to serve as a common name, like you mentioned. Do you know of any other common names for the Myrmica genus?

3. I thought it would be nice to add a little inside joke... :(

I'll fix the spelling, of course, but I'm not getting rid of the Pinkomyrmex question.
