I think it could be Formica francoeuri or F. moki. If its pretty bald, then my quess is F. moki. I think F. francoeuri usually flies around this time though, earlier than F. moki.

1. Location of collection: On a hilltop scurrying over plants
2. Date of collection: 5/09/17
3. Habitat of collection: Old vegetation/brush perfect for harvester ants
4. Length (from head to gaster): I don't want to disturb her
5. Color, hue, pattern and texture: Black and grey striped gaster. Reddish orange head and thorax
6. Distinguishing characteristics: Big and striped gaster
7. Distinguishing behavior: Very fast
8. Nest description: No nest could be found

"Location of collection" is really meant for a geographical location. It does look like F. moki though. It's hard to tell without better pictures. Does it have a lot of hair, or is it bald?

The queen does not appear to have any hair, but I'm not too sure. Also I can't take another picture for awhile because I don't want to disturb her. Here is where she was found if this helps

Formica francoeuri and F. moki look the same to me or is that just me?
