Wait did you not take any workers? Since she came from an established colony, she has to have the majority of her workforce with her or she is highly likely do die. As for genus and species, I think it is Solenopsis Molesta.

Keeper of:

Camponotus Vicinus

Prenolepis Imparis

Tetramorium Sp. E x2

Can you get more pics? With that picture, there are several things it looks like it could be.

All we get is one out-of-focus image?

Regardless, based on your description and what the queen's coloration and shape resembles, it could be:

  1. Solenopsis amblychila
  2. Solenopsis aurea
  3. Solenopsis carolinensis
  4. Solenopsis krockowi
  5. Solenopsis molesta
  6. Solenopsis salina
  7. Solenopsis tennesseensis
  8. Solenopsis texana
  9. Solenopsis texana catalinae

At least we know it's some sort of Solenopsis thief ant!
