Hi one question please, I caught a Camponotus sanctus queen yesterday and I put her inside of a test tube right from the start I checked on her in the morning and it seems she has been tugging on the cotton trying to get out is this normal?

Just put her somewhere with the right temp and forget about her for a month.

If she died then she was either sick or unfertilized.

If she got her first workers you can start feeding her.

Yes, this is typical behavior for queen ants, nothing to worry about.

I put her in a drawer wrapped the testube with a towel and she is in the dark I caught a queen ant of the same species before and she laid eggs pretty much the same day that's why I was a bit worried since I was only able to catch a single Camponotus queen this spring.

Don't worry, Camponotus queens always do this, but watch out they are capable of ripping an entire cotton ball out and escaping always check on her to make sure this doesn't happen.

All my colonies are dead.

 Except:

  Pogonomyrmex barbatus

  Pheidole obscurithorax

  Pheidole morens

For some reason I find that Camponotus will always take off their wings if they are fertile.
