Hey all, I decided to go out looking around the mountain trails near me (Phoenix, AZ) after some wind and apparent rain out there.
This was my first ever anting expedition and it was VERY uneventful. It was much colder than is probably ideal for hunting. I only saw a few ants at all, but this one came scurrying across my path, MUCH larger than the previous ones I had seen. I don't know if that is due to different species or if this is a queen, let alone what type. Based upon what I have read the bent antennas are one of the clues to a queen.
Can anyone help me identify this little one, and also tell me what parts about it clue you into what since I am trying to learn to identify myself, that would be very helpful.
Thanks all!
