Just curious!

 

If you look at them in an odd way (ie, under a red light only, only with the room light off, or if you keep them completely uncovered) please reply with that :)

 

If you notice your queens getting stressed and eating their eggs, mention that too, with how often you look at them

Roughly twice a week. Never had problems with queens eating their eggs.

Once a week, however I haven't been keeping ants long enough to make any distinctions.

Founding queens? Once every two weeks. I check on colonies with workers weekly or every few days.

When my Camponots started to lay eggs I looked at them every evening (with red light which doesn't stress them too much). Now they are so well-fed (some would say over-fed) that I have full trust in them to get along a few days on their own, so currently I force myself to only look at them every 5-7 days (I don't want to disturb them too much).


We should respect all forms of consciousness. The body is just a vessel, a mere hull.

I try to do once a week just to make sure movement is there and there wasn't a death during hibernation.

Lately though, (I use a heavy piece of resume paper as a makeshift light shield) the last 2 times I've moved the shield away from the tank, she has fallen..from...either the roof of the chamber or the glass wall..maybe up in the tunnel. Either way, she basically gives herself a suplex straight onto her back. I figured it was just shocked at the sudden intrusion of light that she was just startled. Then I thought maybe she's trying to remove her winglets still as she's been holding onto them for awhile now. 

Is this a common behavior amoungst (tetramorium) queens?
