For the first time this year, 2017, I have spotted ants outside of my house, in my area.

I live in New Jersey, and I am not gonna doubt the possibilty of thousands of colonies in new jersey that have woken.

But for a while this year I have been searching my property and near it. And finaly today! I saw 1 ant come out of a hole! And it gave me excitement, after it came out, then came another, and another, and now there is a decent amount of them coming out. They have a colony under some bricks in the yard. I am so happy cause this means it starts now in my area! So yay I'm happy! I took a video of a bit of it after I saw the first 2 ants come out.

Please help me identify them?

Sorry for bad quality, here, I made an adjusted quality version!

Looks like Prenolepis imparis.

Would make sense, there are so many Prenolepis imparis on my property! And specifically near this nest too! Hm!

In cold regions (like New Jersey) P.imparis are somewhat active above ground during winter, but don't start foraging full-swing until it starts getting warm. Not surprised they are the first active, they were active in MA too during a temporary heat spike about a week ago.

Awesome! Also! Today was 48 degrees F when I filmed that one, I just filmed the aftermath, rn, late at night, and there are a bunch of them out of the nest since I poured sugar into and around their hole, Right after I had filmed that as a treat to them.

You will see better quality at around 0:13 oh and at this point with them taking the sugar I put there its about 34-35 degrees F.

More or less the same here too. P. imparis are always active (but more so when it's warm) and Tetra popped out of their hills when it got warm, though they burrowed right back under when it got cold again.
