Dorymyrmex insanus. One of the three I mentioned would probably fly today in my anting thread. I just completely forgot about them in the post I made last night.
Looks like the anting season has begun.
Surely insanus isn't awake yet
I think this ant is Nylanderia vividula, measurements and overall background information would be useful.
It's about as big as invicta queen, I found it in a dry riverbed at around noon
General desert area
More accurate measurements this evening

Queen and drone side by side
I forgot I carry a tape measure thingie around now
Looks vaguely like Camponotus Chromaiodes but I find that unlikely do to its size. However, Liometopum occidentale are found in California and look VERY similar to this.
The lack of a pointed butt makes me think it isn't Nylanderia vividula.
Compare: <-- drew's nylanderia vividula

I'd have to disagree with this as I own several colonies of them at this queen looks absolutely nothing like that species, let alone Camponotus.
Hit "Like This" if it helped.
I'd say it's an ant.
