Dorymyrmex insanus. One of the three I mentioned would probably fly today in my anting thread. I just completely forgot about them in the post I made last night.

 

Looks like the anting season has begun. :)

I think this ant is Nylanderia vividula, measurements and overall background information would be useful.

It's about as big as invicta queen, I found it in a dry riverbed at around noon

Looks vaguely like Camponotus Chromaiodes but I find that unlikely do to its size. However, Liometopum occidentale are found in California and look VERY similar to this.

The lack of a pointed butt makes me think it isn't Nylanderia vividula.

I'd have to disagree with this as I own several colonies of them at this queen looks absolutely nothing like that species, let alone Camponotus

I'd say it's an ant.

I'm not sure, but I think you are right.  :lol:      But seriously, I am no good at ID's, however I am fairly confident this is not camponotous species.
