I am looking for the earliest known usage of the term Formiculture in relation to keeping ants. Google was not much help and it may be that the formation of this site is the earliest. Any help would be appreciated.

I think it was a term Reacker came up with and thought it was a good name for a forum about keeping ants.

You would be right about that. The word doesn't exactly make sense, but Reacker and I thought it sounded good.

Mid 2013 both myself and Drew were talking about starting a replacement forum as a result of the ongoing issues with the administration at the Yuku forum. As I am incredibly lazy, Drew actually made a forum while I only talked about making one using a raspberry pi and other nonsensical things. I had intended to call my forum "Formiculture.com" but as I had nothing up and drew had an actual forum in the works I offered Drew to use my name in exchange for a small citation somewhere saying that I had come up with it.

As for the origin of the term, I'm perhaps 80% confident that I came up with it. I don't remember ever using the term or seeing anyone else use it until the period when I was attempting to think of good website names. Of course I could have picked it up somewhere over the years from some other source but if that's true I have no idea when and where that would have been.

Assuming that it is my original creation as I recall it being, it can be safely said that the etymology is as lazy as it seems to be. I was prioritizing ant-related smooth rolling website names, not linguistic consistency.

Thank you, that is pretty much how I remembered it.
