I would totally vote (being in California I'd be able to) for the state to become its own nation! With what is going on, it could only benefit California to be its own nation. On top of that, Hillary Clinton could lead the country or at least run for president against another candidate california chooses. She would have another shot of running for president of california.

California already has more wealth than most countries do, so it could do well as its own nation

What do you guys think? Would you vote for it if you are in california? I know I would.

California is mostly insulated from the implications of national politics. At risk of oversimplification, the biggest advantage to Californians, in my view, would be that tax revenue currently going to poor red states would instead go back to Californians. In that sense, there is a strong economic argument for secession, given that California's economy is overall much better than most of the US.

But since it would hurt the rest of the country that is currently leeching off the federal tax revenues from your citizens, we'd be plunged into a civil war over the matter. With some of the strictest gun control laws in the nation, and after having passed an ID requirement for ammo purchases and ban on high capacity magazines yesterday, I'd say your citizen militias are at a significant disadvantage.

Any country disproportionately controlled by either the Left of Right sounds like a nightmare to me. Personally, I'm a very big fan of gridlock.

A state cannot secede from the United States, so this post is pointless.

I can't see this happening. There are larger implications to being an independent country that California does not have to deal with as a state of the union. Not to mention the strategic importance of ports and air bases that California plays host to. The US can not afford to lose those, and if it came down to it, would not lose those (if you know what I mean).

Honestly. I made this in jest, because my facebook and twitter was spammed with this. I thought it was really dumb and the dumbest thing I heard in the entire election, so decided to be sarcastic about it. It wouldn't even benefit liberals, because then they'd lose ALL the time in every election, because California carries them. But of course sarcasm/jests doesn't translate into text.

I vote yes...let California fend for itself...and she can take her 55 electoral college votes with her, thereby insuring America will never be burdened with a disasterous Democratic president again. Seriously, what a joke. The people of California, for the most part, don't even work. They live off the tax-dollars of the rest of America. I say, goodbye. Good riddance. Good luck!

Heh wow... I never knew separation was such a big thing in the U.S.
I'm so used to hearing about it here in Quebec... But they want to leave for different reasons.

It would never happen. Also California being by itself will lead to it's destruction. Just saying. ;)
