Country - New Zealand, North island
Location found - on pavement with other workers
Date found - about 2 weeks ago?
She was with alot of other workers, could of been moving nest?
I captured the queen with some workers, the queen was laying eggs but they were spread everywhere. Now she's down to one worker.

-Nylanderia sp?
-Pheidole sp
-Pachycondyla Castanea (I didn't catch the queen sadly)
-Monomorium Antarcticum
-Iridomyrmex sp

I don't think they are black crazy ants. There is a colony of them outside and black crazy ants look much larger. Also not as dark.

Kinda looks like Ochetellus glaber, but we can't see any fine details which might differentiate her from other dolichoderine ants.

The environment which we keep our pet insects is alien and oftentimes unsanitary, so ensure that wild populations stay safe by giving your ants the best care you can manage for the rest of their lives, as we must do with any other pet.

 

Exotic ants are for those who think that vibrant diversity is something you need to pay money to see. It is illegal to transport live ants across state lines.

Yeah definitely looks like Ochetellus glaber.

 

I don't think they are black crazy ants. There is a colony of them outside and black crazy ants look much larger. Also not as dark.

 

We don't have black crazy ants in New Zealand, those were probably Iridomyrmex suchieri that you saw.

Is this queen a dud queen? She lays eggs everywhere and I heard that means she won't be successful.

Also pretty cool to have another NZ ant keeper :)

She didn't lay the workers. She was with them, though, and she has not layed any documented eggs
