Queen ant number 1. I think that she's some sort of harvester ant.

Queen ant number 2. I think it might be a tetramorium.

Queen number 1.

1. Location. Colorado, Adams county fair ground, near a lake. She was running on the sidewalk.

2. Date. 10-8-16

3. Habitat. Field, lots of wheat grass. about 100' from a lake, and 1000' from a river. Lots of large mounds of sand with the entrance cleared of foliage.

4. Length. I'd guess 10mm long. I didn't hold her down to measure

5. Color. She's maroon, with a dark colored head. Brown arms. Hairy gaster, Shiny head. Seems to have larger mandibles.

6. Characteristics. Eyes and head seem smaller but large mandibles.

7. Anything else distinctive. I didn't smell her, I can't tell very much, I am new to formiculture. She moves very fast, it was hard to get her.

8 Nest description. I think she's a harvester queen, I don't know for sure. Most ant colonies around had a large mount of sand with lots of red colored ants running back and forth with seeds, dead insects, and other smaller black ants.

9 Pictures.

Queen 2.

1. Location.  Drive way. Suburb. Wondering between cracks of my driveway. All alone.

2. Date. 10/8/16

3. Habitat. Cement and lawn. Houses every 50' - 100' apart.

4. Length. 11mm

5. Coloration. She's solid black. No color variation. He gaster looks almost rainbow colored when the light hits it at different directions.

6. Characteristics. It looks as if she has a spot on her wing. Tiny head.

7.  Anything else. She's very slow moving. almost like she waddles everywhere.

8. Nest. She was not in a nest. She was trying to dig into the dirt between the cement joints.

9. Pics.

Number 1 is indeed a pogonomyrmex.sadly it doesn't seem like a queen. Number 2 is a tetramorium spE that was either a late flighter or was ejected from her nest during a pleometrotic founding

Thanks. Well, should I let the pogonomyrmex go? Is it a male?

Thanks for the quick reply.
