I have an old fishtank that is not in use and i want to make it into a formicarium (the type with the nest and foraging area all in one). Is there any guide on how to make one and, if not, could somebody tell me. Thanks in advance,

Alex

Putting plaster into a fish tank made out of glass isn't a good idea. Plaster will expand during setting and you won't be able to get it out since glass isn't flexible. Better use a box made out of plastic. If you really want to put a block of plaster in there, put it first into a frame made out of wood or something else which has the dimensions of the inside of the fishtank. Than cast plaster into the frame. After it became hard you can polish it so that it fill fit into your tank.

In order to make chambers and tunnels in the plaster I would use a Dremel or a similar tool with a milling head.

Plaster molds way too quickly.

However, there is a tutorial on how to build a grout nest in an aquarium here - http://www.formicult...carium/?p=17667

Many other tutorials available here: http://www.formicult...of-handy-links/

Do you use grout which contains fungicides?

Most grouts do not contain fungicides.  Any that are labelled specifically for the bathroom are to be avoided (same as silicone), or if they say mold resistant.
