Over the past couple of weeks I have caught a handful of parasitic Lasius queens in the UK as they have their flights. Tonight I filmed the minutes after introducing a queen to a small young niger colony I own, no cooling was used and I kept the original queen in place. Anyway I filmed the results, the video starts with niger queen on the right.

Can you explain what's going on? It started off like they were gettin' along, combing some ants together...then the Lasius kinda moved down and...was she cleaning or doing something else to the worker?

All the ants had just fed on honey so I guess she was trying to get some food for herself, I am not entirely sure. This was minutes after being introduced to the colony, maybe she was trying to get the scent of the other ants?

Interesting thank you Jeoff for doing this. I was thinking of doing the same with my Lasius subumbratus and my Lasius alienus. Let me know how this goes and I will maybe do the same.

Possible test colony.
