I forget whether I've seen this feature on YouTube, Amazon, or both, but a couple online communities have the option of down-voting or flagging posts deemed not helpful or relevant to the discussion, and hiding the content in a colllapsable box that is collapsed by default.

Such a feature would certainly be used infrequently, but would preserve the spirit of people's topics without any censorship when admins or moderators feel that one particular member is out of control, but not posting content that breaks any "rules."

As you can see, the posts are neither deleted, nor are they permanently hidden. They are simply collapsed, so they do not detract from following the discussion.

Very helpful for posts that clutter journals.

That does sound useful, but while it's not all-out censoring, it will still have some of the problems caused by a moderator arbitrarily deciding what should be collapsed and what shouldn't. I know other sites have things like this, but they are voted on by everybody.

I think it works great on other sites, but yeah, more as a voting thing, where you can have several people upvoting posts and such to get a relative value of them instead of arbitrarily deciding.

I took a quick look and didn't see any available plug-ins for this. If any developers want to write one for me, I'll be happy to implement it.
