Found on my driveway in Vancouver, BC.

Caught on April 27th around 5pm.

About 13mm in length give or take a bit.

Since I've caught her she's laid 5 eggs.

Last picture is the best, had a hard time getting my phone's camera to focus but I can take some more if it helps.

Could be Camponotus herculeanus? I'm just guessing based on location, I know it's Camponotus but not sure of species.

Current Species:
Camponotus fragilis

Novomessor cockerelli

Pogonomyrmex montanus

Pogonomyrmex rugosus

Manica bradleyi

Actually that looks like Camponotus modoc, since it is uniformly black and has red legs.

Camponotus modoc and Camponotus herculeanus both flew recently :P

Definitely looks a lot more like modoc than herculeanus. I was really surprised when I found her since I've never seen any Camponotus workers near my neighbourhood, let alone a queen. The red on herculeanus looks nice though, now I want one of those as well. Thanks for the responses.

Herculeanus are very beautiful indeed. I've only ever found 1 nest and frankly haven't gotten any successful queens from it yet.

C. Modoc is rather shy, much more passive than Herculeanus.

I confess that I have no idea how to Camponotus spp. apart and was too lazy to look it up for this ID :P

I don't know how to much Camponotus either

But Camponotus modoc and Camponotus herculeanus are about the only species you will find here

Camponotus novaboracensis are quite common in parts of Vancouver and other BC locations.

Most Camponotus are usually nocturnal, so you rarely see them.  :)
