I got some fungus from a wild Trachymyrmex colony. I only took a little as to not kill the colony and I covered them over with dirt. I only had to dig about 1/2ft into the ground to reach to fungus garden, it was pretty cool looking! (I should have taken a picture of it before covering it up but oh well. Anyway should I give the fungus to her now in her test tube or should I wait until she lays some eggs or something?

Edit:

Wow nice! It would take a backhoe to do that with the leafcutters we have here the desert.

Yes, just put the queen right on the fungus, and all you will need to worry about is whether or not she is fertile. You might want to do some research on a proper setup for them; I think they might be a bit more sensitive to the conditions they're kept in than the ones we have here. In the mean time, make sure to keep the fungus humid, or you might kill it.

Thank you, and I'll do some research for a setup, but is the test tube okay for now?

I think it would be okay for a little while. Make sure to put the fungus up against the wet cotton.

I can't seem to find a proper formicarium setup online specifically for Trachymymex. So I was wondering if there is a formicarium that I could just buy, instead of make, that she could survive in? If not I could really use some advice on how to make a setup for her. And by the way, she reacted very quickly to the fungus in a positive way it seemed :)

And I cannot express enough how much I appreciate all of the help on these forums!

I actually make formicariums for leafcutters. If you want, you can try copying my design, or if you don't want to bother, I sell them too.

You can see the formicariums I make for them in the Acromyrmex versicolor listing here.

This here is the thread explaining how I make these.

I would love to see how well they work for Trachymyrmex.
