Small yellow ants found in tree.
Washingtond DC
3/20/16

Found in wooded area. about10 feet up in tree.
roughly 2 mm I think. We found them because of a strange black mass on a tree branch.
It looked like very dark dirt, but it wouldn't shake off. I picked it up. It felt like rubber and when i broke it open there were
yellow ants and eggs. the nest was rubbery and fiberouse. i put the nest back on the tree in hopes that they would rejoin their fellow
ants after this cold snap passes. they were defenetly "hibernating" or something. but they jumped to life when i breathed on them.I put the bit of nest
back together and wedged in in the crook of the tree. Me and My boy were wondering what kind of ants they were. I've never seen a nest like that before. I can gather pictures and more info if nessisary.

I looked at the Crematorgaster ants, and can say that the nests of these lil guys is less..."muddy". The nests are more spongey. I really thought they were ruber at first. Once again thanks for taking a look at this ya'll . If there is anything else i can provide that would help get these identified let me know. I've lived in the DC area my whole life and never seen anything like this before. That being said its easy to miss the small things =)
